HOW TO TAKE A SAUNA

HOW TO TAKE A SAUNA

In Japan, the popular way to enjoy a sauna is by repeating this cycle three to four times “Sauna Cold Bath Rest”

【Preparation】

Start by washing your body and hair and drinking some water.

Don’t forget a towel?

it’s useful for wiping off sweat or keeping cool.

STEP .1 Sauna

Inside the sauna, heat rises.

The higher the bench, the warmer it gets.

Sit in a balanced position, like cross-legged, to warm up your whole body, especially your feet.

Stay in for 5〜10 minutes, depending on the room’s heat.

STEP .2 Cold Bath

Rinse off your sweat, then enter the cold bath. If you’re new to it, make sure your feet are warm from the sauna.

Take a deep breath, and go for it! Saying “Feels good!” can help ease you in.

Stay in for 40〜90 seconds. Avoid staying too long to prevent lightheadedness.

STEP .3 Rest / Outdoor Air Bath

After the cold bath, dry off with a wrung-out towel.

Sit on a chair or bed and relax. Most people rest for about 5 minutes, but there’s no set time–just wait until your body feels calm.

This is when you may experience the refreshing sensation known as totonoi, or “alignment.”

When you’re ready, start your next round!
